Diverse data are provided through the neighbourhood statistics portal and these distinct data are therefore available over different time scales. Many variables draw on 2001 and 2011 census data and are thus available for these years. Other variables such as House Prices for Small Areas are available from 1995. Details on the time series available for each measure are available via the Neighbourhood Statistics Website

Dataset Quality

The data quality and coverage issues for data will vary as measures are drawn from distinct sources. Many measures are drawn from the Census and local authority administrative data, both of which offer complete coverage of the local authorities of England and Wales.

Data available through neighbourhood statistics is drawn from a range of sources. Some variables are drawn from the 2001 and 2011 Censuses. Other variables are however drawn from local authority administrative data.

Dataset Access and Use

The Neighbourhood Statistics website makes all statistics freely available at the small area scale.

Government attitudes to research use of their data appear favourable. The portal is provided to encourage use of government data.

Geography

Area profiles can be created on the basis of postcodes. Where data are available they will be displayed at the datazone level. However, it should be noted, where this level of data is not available, other geographies e.g. Local authority may be provided.
