To date the returns that these statistics have been based on have been completed quarterly, however, from 2014/15 these will be reported annually.

Dataset Quality

These are administrative statistics so are considered high quality. The datasets are however derived from SALES1 and SALES3 returns together with housing association sales data. These returns have differential coverage. The SALES1 summary return collects information on applications for and sales of local authority owned housing only. The SALES3 case based return collects information on sales to sitting tenants only. This includes right to buy sales, rent to mortgage sales and voluntary sales.

These data are derived from SALES1 and SALES3 local authority returns.
